With travel restrictions looking set to lift as the year progresses, some of us are finally starting to think about holidays once more. But now more than ever we want our breaks to be stress-free. In other words, we don’t have the time to take our entire makeup bag with us. Or to spend hours decanting countless foundations and creams into small bottles to fit within hand luggage restrictions. No, what we all need is a handy, capsule-style collection that we can put together at the drop of a hat – and here are our top tips.
Waterproof mascara
If you only take one beauty item on holiday, it should probably be waterproof mascara. Whether you plan on taking plenty of dips in the sea and the pool or you just want to make sure you don’t turn into a streaky panda the moment you start to sweat, a good mascara that won’t drip or smudge is an essential you simply can’t go without.
Tinted BB cream
While holidays are all about low-maintenance, glowing skin, we understand that not everyone is lucky enough to look flawless the moment they step out into the sun. Even so, we recommend ditching the heavy foundation and opting for a light, tinted BB cream instead. Like foundation, this will help cover up any blemishes but will still feel light and moisturising in a hot environment.
Highlighter
Still on skin, make the most of your natural holiday glow by using highlighter to emphasise your sun-kissed complexion. Sweep lightly over your temples, cupid’s bow and cheekbones to create a look that will take you from beach to bar in just seconds.
Eyeshadow
Unless you’re staying at an ultra-glam resort, we’d recommend staying away from any bright colours while you’re lounging by the pool. But when the evening hits, it’s a totally different story. A sweep of your favourite eyeshadow will go a long way towards transforming any look from casual to club-ready glam.
Day to night lipstick
The last thing you’ll want to be thinking about on holiday is matching your lipstick to your chosen outfit. So pick a shade that suits you and stick with it throughout the trip. A medium colour that’s neither too dark nor too light for your complexion is a great choice that should take you from excursions and beach days all the way through to dinner and dancing into the early hours.
