Where makeup was once reserved for females over the age of 18, we are now seeing people of all genders and ages utilising all sorts of products to look how they want to.
However, many do believe that children should not be using makeup whatsoever, believing introducing minors to makeup too soon could be dangerous.
This is a subject that many are debating online, following a backlash to a John Lewis and Mac makeup masterclass for children. Cancelling the “back-to-school mini masterclass”, the brands are under fire from parents and some figures in the makeup industry.
Lucy Rycroft-Smith, a teacher and author, said the following when asked if she would take her children to the event.
“One hundred per cent not,” she says. “If you want to get ready for school, do some learning.”
Hani Sidow, another makeup author, says she agrees that makeup should not be permitted in primary schools.
“Even when you’re 12, I think there’s nothing wrong with it. If someone feels they are ready to express themselves, there shouldn’t be a problem with it,” she says.
What do you think, should everyone be able to express themselves through makeup whatever their age? We would love to hear your thoughts and opinions.
