Let’s face it, if you have oily or combination skin then you know how much of a challenge it can be to find a foundation that can stay put and combat the shine. Without the right products or techniques your makeup can quickly go from pretty to pathetic in a few hours.
Below I have curated a few simple tips and tricks that have helped me over the years to ensure your makeup looks fresh and more importantly, stays put.
PRIME
Your first task will be to prep your skin so you need to PRIME. This is key to making sure whatever products you put onto stick! Stay away from anything that uses the words radiant or glow in the name. It’s a serious no for the oily-skinned! Look for products which use the words ‘oil control’ or ‘matte finish to ensure long lasting wear and a shine free complexion.
SET
Once you’ve primed your skin, set your face with a loose powder. I know it sounds crazy right? You’re probably thinking your foundation will just cake up if you apply it on top of powder and I’m well aware the unspoken rule was always to use liquids first then powders… But give it a try, a light dusting is all you need then you’re ready to go in with your base!
OIL-FREE
The formula of your foundation is incredibly important! Look for foundations which are oil-free and offer a matte finish. Some of my favourites include the Estee Lauder Double Wear and the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r.
SETTING SPRAY
Now that your foundation is complete, set it again with powder. Yes you’ve already used powder once and you may think you’re looking a little too powdery but this is where setting sprays come in. It will not only get rid of the powdery look from you skin but it will ensure your makeup stays put for the rest of the day with just a few spritz. My personal favourite is the Urban Decay De-Slick All Nighter setting spray, for a more affordable option Makeup Revolution do an amazing oil control fixing spray for just £5!
BLOT
Your final task will be to keep blotting papers with you at all times! Just gently blot or swipe the sheet over your face, concentrating it on more oily areas such as the t-zone. This is the quickest and easiest way to remove excess oil and shine.
Hopefully these tips and tricks help you guys control your oils and keep your makeup looking fabulously fresh throughout the day!
